Exactly two years ago at SAPPHIRE+ASUG in Orlando, together with SAP, we announced the launch of SAP Fashion Management, the result of a successful co-innovation initiative between SAP, a few select fashion brands and attune. The vision behind FMS was and is to provide fashion & lifestyle customers a future-proof platform that can leverage the power of SAP HANA® and to bring best practices back to an industry that had evolved rapidly over the years. Today, it’s extremely gratifying for us at attune to see the progress made so far and the traction the solution is getting.
Our involvement with FMS began in 2013, where we were invited by SAP to provide fashion domain expertise on the development of the solution. One of the key drivers behind the initiative was the transformation seen in the fashion industry; driven primarily by the omnichannel consumer. Fashion companies no longer act as pure play wholesalers or retailers. With the industry heading towards a vertical integration, there was a strong need for a solution which could cater to the omnichannel business model. FMS would provide a platform for fashion brands to tear down siloed operations, gain real-time inventory visibility across multiple channels and run as truly vertically integrated, omnichannel businesses.
Together with attune and the industry partners, SAP invested a significantly on the solution; not merely from a feature/functionality perspective but completely rethinking what an omnichannel solution should look like, from the ground-up. While from a technical standpoint the base was SAP’s IS Retail solution, FMS is a completely new solution which needs to be implemented keeping in mind the omnichannel requirements of a fashion business.
The co-innovation between SAP and attune which was of announced in 2014 has included:
- Collaboration on the Solution Design & Product Development
- Development of a Data Migration Tool for existing SAP AFS customers to seamlessly transition to the new solution
- Providing feedback & guidance throughout product testing cycles & preparing customer training materials & ramp-up knowledge transfer materials
Today, the partnership continues as we support the solution across version 2.0 and beyond with partner validations/testing, continuous development of our pre-configured FMS solution (attune Fashion Suite™) and of course, supporting multiple clients globally on roll-out of the solution.
